Joy and Gratitude by Deborah Randall

One of the aspects of a new year I heartily enjoy is a time to ponder over the past year and set goals/resolutions for the new year. As I considered this year's start, I felt God's encouragement to focus on joy! Verses about joy have been resonating in my heart this month - like “the joy of the Lord is my strength” and “Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit” (Nehemiah 8:10 and Luke 10:21). I've recognized that I can't just drum up joy...but that I can ask for this fruit of the Holy Spirit.

I made a decision to start a gratitude journal. I'm recording three items I'm grateful for on a daily basis. As a family we've also posted a large sheet on our refrigerator to record blessings during the month. The idea for a gratitude journal came most recently from a posting I read on the blog – A Holy Experience by Ann Voskamp - http://www.aholyexperience.com. I'm glad I started the listing as it's creating in me a sharpening in looking for grateful points. It's also helped when I've been down to begin to “count my blessings” and see truly what the Lord has done! What has God been speaking in your heart for 2012? Have you taken steps toward what He's saying? Go in the wisdom and admonition of the Lord!
